When I got out of rehab, my therapist suggested fitness as an outlet during recovery. I hit the gym really hard for the first time in years, but I had no idea what I was doing. Copying other kids in the gym wasn't going to work, and I wanted more out of my efforts. I found what I was looking for when I came across the Gym Holiday Challenge and the HIIT 100 program. Everything I needed to know was laid out step by step in a way I could actually understand. With gym programs and regimens that taught me, I learned how to be truly healthy and achieve the results I've always wanted.

I have been training since I was 8 years old. My life is devoted to this discipline. Not only do I have a PhD in exercise physiology and a postdoctoral position at Yale University on my resume, but I was also the senior science editor for Muscle & Fitness and FLEX magazines for 11 years. I was the personal nutrition and health advisor to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, LL Cool J, Dr. Dre, Mario Lopez and other fitness celebrities. With, I share all my knowledge to help you change your body, health and life for the better. Home training should be as structured a program as it is in a full-scale gym. However, many home recipes found online are put together by laypeople with no scientific background. My 6 week schedule at home is different. Using only resistance bands and body weight, it has the same methods as my barbell and dumbbell programs - with the same results.

Weeks 1-4 of the home program use JYM strength bands and micro-linear periodization, where you start light (with high reps) and get heavier each week. You will work up from 15-20 reps in week 1 to 6-8 reps in week 4.

A 4-day split with linear microtraining means each muscle group is trained hard each time, followed by full recovery for maximum size and strength gains.

In week 5, you'll do supersets of opposing muscle groups and movements—an advanced technique I call "push/pull rocking sets."

Pair training this way has many benefits. Cut your workout time in half due to fewer rest periods. Increase exercise intensity to burn calories and fat better. And as research shows, it increases muscle strength and power in the second workout of each pedal set for better results.

In week six, the last week of the program, I introduce my "Speed ​​​​​​Set" protocol. This innovative method includes three distinct rep speeds to develop strength, power and hypertrophy (muscle building) in each set.

Each set consists of 15 repetitions. Repetitions 1-5 are performed explosively in the positive phase and slowly and controlled in the negative phase. Reps 6-10 are very slow reps - 5 seconds up, 5 seconds down. 11-15 repetitions are performed at normal speed to induce complete muscle fatigue.
